This course unit aims to provide an historical, literary, theological and thematic introduction to the Old Testament.

B7130A / B8530A Introduction to the New Testament

This course unit aims to introduce students to the critical study of the New Testament, its literary forms, historical and cultural contexts and theological themes. It seeks to provide a solid foundation for further biblical and theological study.

B7231A Prophetic Literature

This course unit builds on the knowledge and skills developed in the prerequisite Biblical Studies units.  It examines the literary forms and theological content of Israel’s prophetic books, with due consideration of their historical, cultural and religious settings/contexts.

B7273A The Four Gospels

This course unit builds on the introductory survey of the New Testament books by investigating the principal literary, historical and theological features of the four Gospels.

B7326A Psalms

This course unit studies Israel’s poetic literature and practice of prayer and worship as represented in the Psalter. It provides an opportunity to develop exegetical skills in the analysis of Hebrew poetry.

B7364A Pauline Literature

This course unit builds on the knowledge and skills developed in the prerequisite Biblical Studies units. It examines the historical context, literary forms and theological content of the New Testament Literature associated with Paul. 

B9629A Wisdom & Poetry in Israel

This course unit contributes towards a major sequence in Biblical Studies for the BTh. It enables the student to study at depth particular books and passages from Old Testament Wisdom Literature.

B9657A Lukan Literature

The course unit enables students to study the two volume work Luke-Acts which encompasses a gospel and an early Christian theological history.

B9668A The Gospel According to John

This course unit builds upon the knowledge and skills learned in the pre-requisite units. It examines the historical context, literary forms and theological content of the Gospel according to John, and their application to Christian worship, teaching and spirituality.
